Matthews was born in Weakley County, Feb. He came to Crockett County at the age of eighteen and had lived there until the time of his death. In Jan. To this union were born seven children, all of whom with their mother survive him.
For several years Mr. Matthews had been a member of Harris Grove Methodist church. He was a man of good morals and was held in high esteem by the people daughtwr his community. In his death the community has lost an honorable and upright citizen and the family a faithful and loving husband and father. For a year or more he had been in a low state of health and had suffered intensely, but bore his sufferings patiently to the end. All was done for him that loving hands could do but his work on earth was finished and his Master called him home, where pain and sorrow are unknown.

Dock Webb, about 74, who died Monday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam Warren, were carried to Bells Tuesday morning where funeral and burial took place. He was a member of the Methodist church of this place having moved his membership here last month from Bells.
